Reimer is your source for sewer cleaning

over 1,500 reviews

Sewers do not have a positive reputation. Synonymous with rats, roaches, and other unmentionable things, sewers are things people tend to avoid thinking about on a regular basis—for good reason. Yet, your sewer performs a very important function in your home, carrying waste and water away from your residence. And if things go wrong with your sewer, they go seriously wrong. That’s why Reimer Home Services offers sewer cleaning as just one of our many plumbing repair services.

Sewers can have major problems that impact their ability to remove waste and liquid, ranging from blockages to tree roots breaking through them. In this blog post, Reimer will help you determine if you have a problem and will run through the professional-grade methods that we use to clear and clean sewers out.

Where does the grease go?

Grease is a natural byproduct of most cooking, and—unfortunately—the first instinct most people have is to wash it out of the dish and down the sink drain. The problem is that grease is adept at transforming from a liquid to a solid, conglomerating into a mass by the time it reaches the sewer. In large enough sewers with enough grease byproduct draining into them, this mess can result in the formation of grease boulders in the pipe. Eventually, this mass grows large enough to partially obstruct the flow out of the sewer, or completely block it.

This is why most people recommend taking grease out of the sink and instead storing into a container until it solidifies and can be thrown away safely. Good for future reference, but—if you haven’t been doing that—you may already have a problem.

A clot in the sewer pipe

If grease does partially or completely block off the pipe, the first thing you’ll notice in your home is that all of our drains—from the kitchen sink to the shower to the guest bathroom toilet—are not draining simultaneously. It’s important that you immediately stop using water and call Reimer. A sewer blockage is a serious problem that could result in your home flooding.

How do we treat sewers

When you need to have your sewer cleaned, we’ll dispatch an experienced and trained technician to your home. Using a specialized camera attached to a snake tool, we’ll inspect the sewer and find the point of blockage. From that point, we can apply a number of treatments, depending on the type, size, and severity of the blockage:

  • Rotating snake tool
  • Water jet application
  • Root cutters

Once we’ve cleared the obstruction, we’ll once again use the camera tool to inspect the sewer and confirm that it’s clear and things are working once again. Through every step of the process, you’ll be informed about what we’re doing and how things are going.
