5 plumbing tips to avoid a nightmare this summer

The summer season is a great time for traveling, relaxing, and having fun outdoors. You should not let the festive atmosphere of the season be ruined by plumbing problems. Here are five common plumbing issues that you should watch out for during the summer. By following these plumbing tips, you can help you and your home avoid a plumbing nightmare.

1. Avoid a clogged garbage disposal

If you prepare meals at home, you should be extra careful of what you throw in the garbage disposal system. Fruits and vegetables are certainly good for health, but they are not particularly great for the garbage disposal system.

You should avoid disposing of hard fruits, such as watermelon rinds, as the rinds can damage the disposal unit’s blades. This can result in a stubborn clog.

Also, you should avoid putting cooking oil or grease down the disposal unit.  This can also result in a clogged pipe down the road when the oil or grease solidifies.

2. Prevent sprinkler problems

At the start of the summer season, you should inspect and clean the sprinkler system. Also, when mowing your lawn, you should make sure that the sprinkler heads are lowered. This will ensure that the sprinkler is not damaged and doesn’t cause a plumbing problem in the long run.

3. Be careful about pet hair clogging tubs

Pets, including both cats and dogs, tend to shed hair all year. They grow bulky coats during the winter that sheds during early and late summer. This hair can clog the pipes, resulting in a plumbing nightmare.

You should avoid bathing your cat or dog in the bathtub. If you do bathe the pet in the bathtub, you should consider trapping fur and hair before it goes down the drain.  Also, you should brush your pet regularly to reduce the chances of the hair clogging the drain.

If you do need drain cleaning, we can help.

4. Have Reimer inspect and repair your sewage pipes

Excessive rain water can get in your sewer pipes through cracks, resulting in the overflowing of the sewer. To avoid this problem, you should consider having the sewer drains checked and repaired by a professional plumber at the start of summer.

Also: you should also call a plumber in case the pipes have been damaged due to tree roots spreading underground.

5. Avoid small plumbing issues

Probably the best way to avoid a plumbing problem is by having a professional plumber check the plumbing at least once a year.

The plumber will perform a thorough check to ensure that everything is in good condition. In case any problem is detected, the plumber will perform the required repairs. They can also provide you with plumbing tips and advice. This will ensure that small plumbing issues don’t turn into a major problem.
